Ardmore wins LABC award: Greenwich Peninsula

Fri 17th Nov 2017

Ardmore’s Greenwich Peninsula scheme for Bellway Homes was a multi-award winner at the recent Local Authority Building Control Building Excellence Awards. The scheme was awarded Best Housing – Large Development, and a commendation for Best Partnership with a Local Authority was also awarded to Ardmore and Bellway Homes partnered with Greenwich in recognition of their high standards of construction and workmanship.

The £32m scheme provided 229 new homes – a mix of luxury and affordable apartments and town houses, just a few minutes walk from the 02 Arena and a two-minute tube journey from Canary Wharf. Designed by RMA Architects, Greenwich Peninsula has been delivered by Ardmore as principal contractor under a single lump-sum contract.

The development has been constructed in three blocks, from two up to 19-storeys high. The 19-storey block features two triplex luxury penthouse suites with private roof gardens and breath-taking 360º panoramic views. The majority of the one, two and three bedroom properties enjoy unrestricted views of the river Thames and the London skyline and most living spaces have a balcony, terrace or winter garden combination. Demand for the properties is high with the majority of the 152 apartments and 21 town houses already sold or under offer. In addition, 53 apartments and three town houses are available for shared ownership or rent through registered social landlord London & Quadrant Housing Trust. Car parking has been created at ground and first floor level.

The traditional reinforced concrete framed structure has a euro-clad rain screen system with cedar cladding. The external envelope at low level features distinctive blue brick and stone panels. Internal walls are constructed using a metal stud system. The gas boiler and a Combined Heat & Power biomass boiler have been installed at ground floor level and an internal sprinkler system fitted throughout the 19-storey block. A Radmat Roofing system has been installed for the entire scheme. Concrete balconies were cast as part of the RC frame, and glazed balcony elements have been installed by Ardmore on-site. Some materials were delivered by boat in order to avoid traffic congestion and reduce carbon footprint.

The LABC Awards for Construction Excellence were launched less than 20 years ago and are now regarded as among the most prestigious in the industry.
