Canada Water hits new heightsThu 19th Apr 2018
The 17-storey Porter’s Edge building at Canada Water was officially ‘Topped Out’ this week by Southwark Council Leader Cllr Peter John OBE and members of the development team behind the project.
Designed by MacCreanor Lavington architects, Porters Edge will deliver 234 outstanding new homes, from studios to waterside townhouses, all available to rent through Folio London, Notting Hill Housing’s market rent brand. Porters Edge will also house a new flagship Decathlon store at ground floor level, with rooftop gardens for relaxing and entertaining, as well as a residents’ gym.
This is the first phase of the Water Yards, an eight-acre site set at the water’s edge of Canada Water, which is being delivered in partnership by Sellar and Notting Hill Housing. A major new public space will feature at the heart of the site next to the water’s edge, to create a vibrant new town centre for this part of London. The first phase of new homes will be delivered in summer 2018.
Local community representatives and project apprentices were also present at the Topping Out Ceremony, which saw Cllr Peter John OBE – together with Notting Hill Housing Chief Executive Kate Davies and Sellar CEO James Sellar – set the final concrete pour at the top floor of the building. Cllr Peter John also laid a ceremonial yew wreath, made using materials provided by the nearby Stave Hill Ecology Park and decorated with ribbons for good luck, on the top of the building.
Kate Davies, Chief Executive of Notting Hill Housing, said:
“The ‘Topping Out’ of Porters Edge is a major moment for the Water Yards development. Delivering over 200 new homes exclusively for market rent through Folio London, schemes like this are vital for NHH’s approach, helping create the surpluses that go into providing more homes for those who need them. With placemaking and community at its heart, Water Yards will encompass carefully curated public spaces and thoughtful landscaping, designed to capitalise on its urban setting and create a new destination in this part of London.”
Sellar CEO James Sellar said:
“We are delighted to bring everyone together to mark such an important milestone for the Water Yards development. The Water Yards will deliver over 1,000 much needed new homes for London, and thanks to significant and ongoing local engagement and consultation, is a project that will benefit the whole community. Porters Edge is just the first step in creating a vibrant new neighbourhood for London, with new shops, restaurants, cafes, sport and leisure facilities alongside high-quality housing.”
