Behind the hoardings at Hackney Wick, our team is delivering a major mixed-use development delivering 190 new homes alongside over 40,000 sqft of commercial space, all set around one of East London’s most creative neighbourhoods.

For Colin, Project Director, this marks his first project with Ardmore: “It’s my first project for Ardmore, and I’ve really enjoyed getting to know the team. We’re very strong on teamwork here. Everyone, from site to head office, has been supportive, and that makes a big difference. It’s been a positive job overall, the subcontractors have been good, and the client relationship has grown stronger along the way.”

Jim, our HSQE manager says, “The uniqueness of Hackney Wick is that it’s spread across three plots with a busy railway station in the middle. We’re surrounded by the public on all sides, so maintaining strong community engagement has been key. Everyone on site plays an important role, and there’s a real sense of respect and responsibility to get the job done safely.”

Logistics has been a defining challenge throughout the project. Ace, senior construction manager, says, “The footprint is tight. There’s almost no space for storage, and we’re surrounded by live buildings and infrastructure. Logistics is everything. We rely on just-in-time deliveries and daily coordination to keep things moving. It’s been challenging, but also a great learning curve in buildability and sequencing.”

From an electrical perspective, the project has been equally complex. Aaron, electrical manager, says, “This is my first project in this role, and it’s been a huge learning experience. One of the biggest challenges has been power, we didn’t have a temporary building supply, so we had to run the site using generators, which is pretty unheard of at this scale. Managing that setup has been complex, but it’s pushed me to learn quickly and adapt.”
