Chelsea Waterfront is a major regeneration scheme centred around the historic Lots Road Power Station. Combining high-specification interiors, exceptional public amenity space and a prominent riverside location with the rich history of the site, the development includes several medium-rise blocks and an iconic 37-storey tower.
Chelsea Waterfront is an ambitious regeneration project comprising the refurbishment and conversion of the iconic red-brick Lots Road Power Station, along with the construction of several new residential buildings. At the heart of the development is the 37-story West Tower, which rises to 122.5 meters, making it the tallest structure in Chelsea.
Ardmore was the main contractor on the West Tower and also delivered the fit-out of the Water Gardens, a collection of three 10-storey buildings, which had already been completed to shell and core. In total, we have delivered 179 prime and super-prime apartments, including the 6,000 sqft triplex penthouse on the 35-37th floors of the centrepiece 37-storey Tower West.
West Tower
The West Tower is the highlight of the Chelsea Waterfront development, both in scale and design. Ardmore was responsible for the construction of the tower’s reinforced concrete structure, as well as the installation of over 11,500 square meters of unitized aluminium curtain walling. This façade features bespoke shadow box detailing, incorporating glazed units and a distinctive diamond-shaped halo crowning the top three floors.
Inside the tower, Ardmore delivered 73 prime and super-prime apartments, including a luxurious 6,000-square-foot triplex penthouse. Each floor of the tower offers progressively fewer apartments, ensuring exclusivity and privacy, with the top floors dedicated to single, expansive units.
Given the tower’s height and design, Ardmore had to overcome significant logistical challenges during construction. The single stair core and two lift shafts necessitated the use of an external passenger and goods hoist throughout much of the build, which limited the ability to complete the tower section by section. To address this, Ardmore developed a partial occupation strategy that allowed for early handover of lower floors while construction continued above.
The Water Gardens
Surrounding the West Tower are the Water Gardens, a collection of three 10-story residential buildings—Claydon House, Chartwell House, and Compton House. These blocks house 103 private apartments and are nestled within beautifully landscaped gardens designed by renowned landscape architects Randle Siddeley. Ardmore was responsible for the luxury fit-out of these units, which were delivered as shell and core under separate contracts.
Luxury Fit-Out: A Blend of Tradition and Modernity
The interiors of the Chelsea Waterfront apartments exude luxury, with traditional materials such as timber and marble used throughout. Spaciously designed, these apartments offer large hallways and living areas reminiscent of a townhouse. Ardmore sourced exclusive materials from around the world to create a contemporary, high-end finish.
