Ten Trinity Square

The transformation of Ten Trinity Square stands as one of London’s most iconic redevelopment projects. Ardmore took on the challenge of converting this Grade II* listed building into a world-class Four Seasons Hotel and Residences, carefully preserving its historical essence while integrating modern luxury.

The redevelopment of Ten Trinity Square is a testament to Ardmore’s expertise in blending historical preservation with modern luxury. The result is a breathtaking space that honours its past while offering all the amenities of a contemporary five-star hotel and residences.

A Rich History
Located in the heart of London, Ten Trinity Square is a building steeped in history. Originally designed by Sir Edwin Cooper in 1922, it served as the headquarters for the Port of London Authority until 1970. The building played host to significant historical events, including the inaugural assembly of the United Nations in 1946 and the signing of the first UN Charter in 1948, an event presided over by Winston Churchill.

The Redevelopment
Completed in 2018, the redevelopment involved a meticulous conversion of the historic structure into a luxury destination. The Four Seasons Hotel now features 100 guest rooms, 41 serviced apartments, two specialty restaurants—La Dame de Pic London and Mei Ume—along with the Rotunda Bar, a luxurious spa, and a fitness centre. The historic UN Ballroom and the newly named Merchants’ Hall serve as premier venues for events, seamlessly blending historical grandeur with contemporary amenities.

Structural Challenges and Innovations
Ardmore’s role as the main contractor included significant structural interventions, such as excavating a new basement beneath the existing building. This was a complex process requiring careful coordination to preserve the integrity of the building’s historic fabric while accommodating modern systems like heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. Innovative solutions, such as a low water use mist system, were implemented to meet the building’s specific needs while minimizing impact on its heritage features.

Heritage Restoration
The restoration of Ten Trinity Square’s heritage features was a central focus of the project. The building’s original meeting rooms, facade, grand staircase, and intricate period details were meticulously restored. Ardmore’s team of skilled craftsmen worked closely with the project’s executive architect, Aukett Swanke, to ensure that the building’s historic charm was preserved while new elements were seamlessly integrated.

Luxurious Interiors
The luxurious interiors of the Four Seasons Hotel and Residences were crafted by renowned designers including Bruno Moinard, Martin Kemp, AB Concepts, and Joseph Caspari. The entrance lobby opens into a stunning rotunda, a circular space with a domed roof inspired by the building’s naval history. The hotel’s 100 guest rooms and suites blend modern design with original architectural details, offering a unique experience that pays homage to the building’s storied past.

The private members’ club within the hotel retains much of the building’s original neoclassical woodwork, Corinthian columns, and ornate mouldings. Lavish rooms, including a cigar room, library, and billiard room, feature carefully restored heritage details such as original fireplaces, opal glass chandeliers, and copper accents.

The 41 super-prime residences evoke the elegance of the 1920s, reflecting the building’s original construction period. High-end materials, including Italian marble, Sahara Noir walls, and American walnut joinery, create an atmosphere of timeless luxury.
