Adding value to the community in the heart of Camberwell

Ardmore’s Camberwell Fields project has been highly praised by the Considerate Constructors Scheme for its exceptional dedication to considerate construction.

Receiving outstanding scores in community, safety and the workforce sections, Scheme monitor Peter Allen said: “Community engagement is truly exceptional but this has been a hallmark from the very beginning.”

During the project, Ardmore teamed up with The Play Shelter and Tower Bridge Primary School to provide them with a new after school club, which was highlighted by the Scheme: “The work with a primary school in the borough has resulted in a facility which will be available for decades – helping parents on low income to go to work or attend education. This project has been promoted by the school as an exemplar of joint working with a building contractor and it has been the design experience of the contractor and their willingness to fund the project that has ensured its success.”

As well as providing this school facility, the project team also worked with the local authority to provide training, jobs and apprenticeships for local people and kept over 800 neighbours updated with regular newsletters.

Highlighting the team’s dedication to the community during the Camberwell Fields regeneration scheme, Ardmore’s on-site health and safety manager Minko Bebevski said:

“A project like this gives us an opportunity to make a positive impact within the local community. Supporting the local communities and providing a safe place of work has always been of paramount importance for Ardmore, as shown by our recent silver and bronze awards from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents.

“Having our workforce wellbeing as our priority has made the Scheme requirements really helpful.  By receiving a lot of useful information and regular updates on the latest best practices, we managed to integrate some good ideas and improve Occupational Health Awareness for our employees. The Scheme is invaluable in setting challenging benchmarks and it is rewarding to be acknowledged as taking an active part in demonstrating this on our project.”

Ardmore has enjoyed a long-standing collaboration with the Scheme, registering its first project in 2004. We have since registered over 120 of our sites and scooped 7 National Site Awards, underlining our considerate approach. Ardmore cemented its partnership with the Scheme by becoming an Associate Member in 2011.
